Prague for Last Night of April - Burn that Witch!
If you love parties, beer and bonfires and still thinking where to go end of April - Prague is the destination for you!
The night from April 30 to May 1 all Czech celebrate the Night of the Witches - a very old pagan feast to say final good-bye to winter and to welcome spring.
Brooms symbolising witches are burnt all throughout the country. Walking at night might resemble you Halloween and classic medieval festivals. Everywhere you’ll hear cackling and laughing witches and hags.
Bonfires will keep the night light:) Bonfire is an essential part of the festival being believed to protect against evil forces and illnesses. Bonfire pyramids with a witch on the top will appear across the country during the 30th April.
Around 6pm people start to gather along with their beer, wine and sausages - the quintessential part of Czech culture:) Early evening is mostly for families, whilst the real party with music and fun comes a bit later.
Either way, get close to the fire and enjoy Czech food & drinks:)
Come to St.Nicholas church in Mala Strana. At 7pm they will be a witch procession down to Kampa Park. There the witch will be put on fire that will be lit at 8pm. Zlute lane and Ladronka are two most popular witch night gatherings.
These events are free of charge. Have fun at dance and music performances, magic tricks, a face-painting, petting zoos and fireworks.
